Are desk phones coming back from the dead?☎️💀

Softphones and headsets have become the go-to choice for many businesses, particularly since the pandemic and the rise of hybrid and home working. But as more employees return to the office, we’re seeing a resurgence with many choosing to go back to having a phone on the desk.

We spoke to some of our customers to find out why they’re choosing to put phones back on their desks, and here are the main takeaways:

• Always Available: Calls aren’t missed because a computer is switched off or asleep.

• Simple & Intuitive: No training required. Everyone knows how to pick up a phone and make a call.

• Crystal-Clear Audio: Reliable, high-quality audio without relying on your computer’s performance or connection.

• Accountability: Reports and wallboards provide useful data, but some managers value the simple reassurance of hearing a phone ring and knowing it’s being answered.

• Built to Last: A quality desk phone can easily last 10+ years with minimal maintenance.

• Great Value: Many modern desk phones cost around the same as a wired headset but can last up to 10 times longer.

• Packed with Features: Today’s desk phones can offer everything you’d expect from a softphone and much more.

It isn’t all good news as there are still some things to consider. Ergonomics, additional cabling and network requirements are all worth taking into account. However, there’s a good chance your existing setup already supports these requirements, and with mobile apps working alongside softphones, many of the above issues can be easily addressed.
